at locust lake state park. We will be meeting in the morning. I will need to leave around 2:00 because of a family function. Obviously this will all be determined on the ice condition. Future weather says it should be good still. I can say there is 7" on the lake. We will try to keep you posted on ice conditions. We will also try to give enough notice if a cancellation is necessary.

So this is an ice fishing meet and greet?

What minimum basic equipment would you recommend for non ice anglers who might like to meet and greet and try the ice for the first time under adult experienced supervision?

Bait and a rod. Small jigs. Swedish pimple or a small cast master. Worms minnows. Whatever. Rigs are cheap. $17. I will have a auger to drill holes. And obviously would determine if ice is safe. Looks like we have a good chance of this to work. A warm up coming but stays cold at night. Ice is about 8" right now.

I'd really like to do it since I have never gone ice fishing before. But I work weekends so I can't.

We might be there. I'm waiting to hear if a possible prior commitment is going to happen and, if it does, whether it will be Saturday or Sunday or both.

Does ice require boots or something to put on one's shoes, or are sneakers OK?

Boots with chains are preferable. Going down one the ice in the cold isn't much fun at all!

This might work for me. Any need for a fish finder/depth finder of any kind?

Lately it's not a high volume lake. But the last two outings have produced. 1- 14" perch. 1- 15" perch and a nice trout.

So futures are looking great. People asked me what they need. Absolutely need a fishing pole. 6' or less ultra light or a specific ice rig. Ice rigs are on sale at Cabelas and Walmart has economical versions. Small jigs. Swedish pimples. Jig a kastmaster spoon. Wax worms are all top baits. Spike are good to have. And go in the garage and steel the kids sled. Put all your gear on it and pull it out on the lake. A current license is required and there is trout in this lake. I will have a auger and a grill. So. Bring something to grill I'll have it all set up out on the lake weather permitting. Bring chips and hot dogs. We will grill it up. Very good news praise the Lord. Weather looks like it will provide us with the weather needed.

Well, we're not going to make it. That other prior commitment is happening after all. If anyone here is going to the Lebanon gun show Saturday I'll be at the FOAC table. Stop over and say hi.
